This classic institution, a former speakeasy with a hidden wine vault, is straight out of TV’s Mad Men. It’s a place where suited men sip tumblers of Scotch with the guys in the downstairs Bar Room while digging into medium-rare steaks and inflating stories about business and broads. Is this the ’50s, or 50-plus years later? That’s precisely the beauty of ‘21’ Club, where time seems to have stopped and a who’s who of celebrities and power brokers (George Clooney, Henry Kissinger, Bill Gates) eating burgers and Caesar salads provides more noteworthy decoration than the framed cartoons and hanging model airplanes downstairs, or the murals and chandeliers in the upstairs dining rooms.
