There’s an überchic aesthetic and chilly, too-cool-for-school vibe at this mod hotel
that replaced the fleabag dive that long sat here before it. The lobby’s slender leather
couch, white shag rug and powder-blue saucer chairs scream I Dream of Jeannie,
and that ’60s feel carries through to the blue-toned Steven Sclaroff-designed rooms,
decked out with teak walls, Saarinen-style side chairs and tables, and classic Guy
Bourdin prints on the wall. The Euro crowd doesn’t seem to mind unloading their
Euros for more current amenities such as maki from the Blue Ribbon Bar & Grill
outpost off the lobby, or shelling out $4,500 a night for the privilege of staying in a
two-story loft space with a terrace overlooking Central Park and Columbus Circle.
