Named after the Lower East Side intersection where it’s located, this restaurant
brings a little more boho chic to the Lower East Side. Thick red-velvet drapes and
candles dripping with wax on bookshelves make this seductive gastropub feel like
a brothel-like foodie haven. Forget bangers and mash—the kitchen makes normally
cringe-worthy animal parts (is that a lamb’s neck on my plate?) something to crave.
The dining room is so dark you might need a pocket flashlight just to read the menu,
so memorize a few signature items just in case: We swoon over the crispy sweetbreads,
poached caramelized bone marrow adorned with caviar, and raw hamachi
with “pink grapefruit beads” and slivers of fennel. Be careful not to gorge yourself
on the addictive bacon and sage rolls to start.
