Alaska often tops the list for adventure lovers and the resort town of Girdwood (about 30 minutes outside of Anchorage) is a favorite for locals and out-of-town visitors alike. Whether skiing world-class slopes, cheering on dog mushers during the famous Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, hiking the surrounding glaciers or the peak-of-summer trails abundant with wildflowers, you’ll want to fit in some downtime to relax and restore.

The Spa at Alyeska, located inside Hotel Alyeska, is an oasis within the Alaskan wilderness. The staff is welcoming and knowledgeable while treatment rooms are intimate, with rainforest-inspired décor throughout. A redesign, which is planned for sometime in 2014, will highlight more of the outdoors of surrounding Girdwood, the northernmost rainforest in the world.

There’s plenty to choose from on the spa menu, including a variety of massages, facials, and body treatments with an emphasis on hydration and regeneration, including the Alaskan Rainforest Package, Moisture Drench Package, and a host of Vichy shower treatments such as the 80-minute Deep Forest Detox. Along with spa treatments, yoga sessions are also offered several times a week.
