Locally inspired Caribbean pampering
5 Treatment rooms
The journey to tranquility begins well before you step a foot inside Sense, A Rosewood Spa at Jumby Bay. To get to the private island where the spa resides, guests must take a picturesque six-minute ferry ride from Antigua; experiencing the peacefulness of the pristine turquoise waters is the first step to utter relaxation. The indoor/outdoor spa’s natural beauty, the range of treatments and the services provided by accomplished therapists are what draw repeat spa-goers again and again.
The Caribbean spa is set away from the rest of Jumby Bay, A Rosewood Resort, making it a true sanctuary where guests can unwind and unplug. The sea plays a major role here, as views of it can be seen throughout the intimate open-air spa (you can often hear the waves lulling you into a calmer state). The decor is serene and island-esque, with a soothing blend of ivories and browns, natural rattan and sea grass. The five treatment rooms are more like well-appointed suites than typical rooms — each has a shower, luxe linens and a private relaxation terrace.
Rosewood’s Sense spas traditionally take inspiration from the surrounding locale, and this one is no different. The comprehensive spa menu is full of locally inspired healing traditions and beauty services. Native ingredients and customs are astutely used in treatments, which are designed to let stress ripple away. For instance, the Island Bamboo massage incorporates warm, hollowed-out bamboo canes to knead out tension, and the Sun-Kissed body treatment soothes skin with a freshly made salve.
Don’t hesitate to book one of the five Sense Spa Journeys, longer treatments that combine several services with a unique Caribbean influence. One standout? The Ley Ley, a two-and-half hour experience that includes a citrus-infused exfoliation, a rhythmic massage performed with botanical oil, a scalp massage and reflexology performed on feet to increase relaxation (as if that was needed).
A slew of other treatments — facials, manicures, pedicures, and even makeup application — are available, too. Traditional add-ons like soothing eye treatments and scalp massages can be booked in conjunction with other treatments or as quickie pick-me-up services.
Guests can further their wellbeing at the fitness center, which has top-of-the-line strength and cardiovascular equipment, including treadmills, stationary bicycles and weight training machinery. Yoga, Pilates, swimming and even beach bootcamp programs can be arranged, too. And there’s nothing more soothing to the soul than lounging by water, be it lapping ocean waves or infinity-edge pools with a view — head to one of the resort’s two swimming pools or the white-sand beach to prolong a spa or workout-induced high.
