Aruba’s pristine oceanfront sanctuary
13 Treatment Rooms
With a wide swath of Aruba’s famed Palm Beach permanently carved out as its own, and a resort complex so large that it dwarfs all others on that strip, it’s no surprise The Spa at The Ritz-Carlton, Aruba is also the largest on the island.
Offering its own entrance off of a massive, oceanfront pool circuit, the 15,000-square-foot sanctuary allows you to escape into one of the 13 intimate treatment rooms for a variety of services, many using island-inspired techniques and locally sourced ingredients.
The overall theme of the spa is based on the natural elements sky, water, earth and fire — there are corresponding treatments incorporating these individual healing properties.
Though not tropical in nature, the Aruba spa connects closely to its host island through the use of ancient native techniques and organic and locally grown and sourced ingredients in its signature services. Aruba’s aloe — some of the best in the world — figures in many services, as does coconut, cactus, rich red Aruba mud, black sea lava stones and indigenous botanicals.
His-and-her steam rooms and saunas, spacious relaxation rooms, and two private whirlpools are highlights, as is an oxygen bar and a full-service beauty salon. They also boast Aruba’s largest, most comprehensive fitness center to complement health and wellness offerings. Check out the cardiovascular equipment, personal trainer options, Pilates, fitness classes and outdoor sunrise yoga.
Another nice touch is the complimentary coconut water and the choice of organic teas made by a local Caribbean herbalist in the relaxation areas.
One would think that, given the sheer size of the complex, the luxury spa would come across as rather cold or impersonal. But that’s not the case here. Though there is little by way of bright tropical color and décor — the palette is neutral in all white, brown and tan — it’s the welcoming staff that brings extra warmth to this pristine sanctuary.
The initial “wishing” ritual greeting is lovely. You get to choose a black lava rock from local Black Stone Beach to wish upon — it is a wonderful way to start a relaxation journey.
As you’d expect from a spa this size, the treatment menu is comprehensive, but it manages not to be overwhelming. Along with signature services (more on those later), the spa has several massages, facials, body treatments and nail services.
The signature Aruba Divi Divi Massage is named after the island’s most famous emblematic tree and uses its inherent oils as a natural astringent. The experience combines methods from many disciplines to massage, improve circulation and heal. (Fun fact: The local Ritz-Carlton, Aruba therapists are responsible for creating this unique treatment.)
The indulgent Tropical Wave Massage involves two therapists working in harmony to massage the entire body in a rolling sea wave motion; The Awa Awakening (awa is Aruban for “water”) looks to an ancient local Indian spiritual ritual and massage technique to restore good energy and revitalize with local herb and flower oils.
The Dushi Tera — meaning “sweet earth” in the local lingo — is a real treat. It is a combo exfoliation and massage that incorporates ingredients such as organic coconut salt, local organic red mud, black beach lava stones and fresh cactus-infused lotion meant to purify and revive.
