Both Woodlands Grill and Rice House are romantic restaurants, with cozy fireplaces and window tables offering sprawling views of the countryside surrounding Barnsley Resort. The laid-back resort vibe means you won’t need to dress formally for dinner, but you’ll still feel comfortable dressing up for a special occasion. The wait staff is also used to accommodating romantic gestures, since the resident Fairy Godmother will cast “love spells” and decorate a couples’ dining table. For the most intimacy, request a spot in Rice House’s Rose Room, a small private dining room with burgundy walls, white wainscoting and a brick fireplace. Rice House’s Lily Room is also a romantic private dining room with a meadow view, which is lovely for summer dinners when evening light lasts until 10 p.m. The clubby Woodlands Grill gains ambience from dim lighting, flickering candles on each table and small vases of fresh flowers lining the fieldstone fireplace; a corner table by the fireplace or overlooking the Forbes Travel Guide recommended hotel’s golf course will be most romantic.
While Woodlands Grill certainly has its romantic moments, its primary role is to be inclusive and welcome families with children, golfers, business diners and couples on romantic getaways. Rice House’s warm and intimate nature, however, lends itself well to romantic dining.
