InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta

An elevated new take on an ATL favorite
VERIFIED LUXURY

A beacon in the city for business travelers and those simply taking time for a break, InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta underwent a major, multi-phased makeover in 2022. The first portion of the renovation called for a reimagined reception area, a new dining concept and fresh color schemes around the property. The second part, which should conclude in summer 2022, further helped the astute address capture travelers’ eyes with room modifications, additional public space upgrades and a spa rebranding.

With all of the changes, loyal InterContinental guests might ask if the hotel has lost any of the Southern charm and unique touches that had been its hallmarks since its 2004 opening. The answer is a resounding no. Valets still welcome you with a genuine smile. Longtime Club InterContinental Lounge staffers still remember how you like your coffee. The views are still magical from your 21st-floor suite. InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta is still what visitors remember — only now it has even more refinement.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Already a conversation starter because of its rose marble flooring, the Lobby Lounge gets more allure from KTGY Simeone Deary Design Group, which made the space exude Southern charm with modern sensibilities. New carpet, exciting light fixtures (including a chandelier made with hundreds of hand-blown crystals) and a repositioned check-in parlor all play their parts in setting the mood as soon as you walk into the building.
  • The Atlanta hotel prides itself on toeing the line between classic and contemporary. You’ll see this with shades of timeless gray and white filling a redesigned Deluxe Room with outlets scattered all over the place, ensuring your devices can always stay juiced. But if you think that contrast is nice, just wait until you see the balancing act done in the Executive (marble flooring, two 65-inch TVs) and Royal suites (hardwood floors, mirrored TV).
  • Americano is James Beard winner and Food Network personality Scott Conant’s gift to Atlanta diners with a hankering for Italian-American cuisine. Unwrap made-from-scratch pastas, aged steaks and fresh seafood in the sleek, modern dining room.
  • Many of the rooms and public spaces have also been enhanced by the art of Atlanta’s own Niki Zarrabi. The mixed-media artist makes any space stand out, but never is that more obvious than in the Lobby Lounge, where a few of her botany-focused murals seemingly melt off the frame and onto the wall in a stunning optical treat.
  • The spruced-up Club InterContinental Lounge takes some stylistic clues from other parts of the property. Long known for its all-day nibbles (from ham-and-cheese croissants to Klondike bars), the exclusive space added perks such as a private boardroom with a 10-chair conference table and a “phone booth” for private calls.

The Restaurants

  • From stuffed focaccia so flavorful your tastebuds will think you’re eating pizza to salt-and-pepper calamari and succulent diver scallops, the splendid menu at Americano will be a hit for guests and locals simply looking for great gnocchi.
  • The new restaurant’s beverage program is magnifico, too. The Americano (A.G. Perino vermouth, Alchermes Aperitivo, bitters and cherrywood smoke) and All Gucci (Montenegro Amaro, Elijah Craig rye whiskey, chai, honey bitters and Vino Rosso) are standout cocktails, but a wine registry that stretches from Oregon to Tuscany will be hard to top.
  • In the event you’re craving something before Americano opens its doors for the day, you can find pastries, grab-and-go breakfast sandwiches and coffee at neighboring Caffé Americano.
