Just 20 minutes from Beijing Capital International Airport in the northeast portion of the city, East, Beijing offers a hip and contemporary place to hang your hat. Especially well-suited to business travelers, this 369-room hotel gives you views of the city or the sprawling park behind it, with the added convenience of being connected to Indigo luxury mall. The lobby is a sleek and sparse space with wooden benches, glowing Lucite desks, wooden-slatted walls and locally commissioned artwork, such as the installation of 30 stratified building materials by Ma Han.
Service is on the casual side, with staff in slouchy cotton pants calling you by your first name, and room service arriving dissembled in plastic takeaway boxes inside a white paper bag. That said, staff is warm and efficient, making you feel welcome at the fitness facility Beast (Body By East) on the fourth floor, as well as the Xian bar in the lobby, which stands out for its whiskey selection and foosball and billiards tables. Domain, situated on the second floor, offers a sunny and social spot to meet colleagues or work. It features a long communal table; private, cushioned seating areas; computer pods with printers; and an art/bookstore.
Luckily, the public spaces aren’t the only areas given attention at the Beijing hotel. The guest rooms are also spacious and modern, with comfy beds, flat-screen televisions, Elemis bath products and business-friendly features such as outlets by the bed and desk, printing over the Wi-Fi network and an iPod Touch on the nightstand.
