The Peninsula Spa Beijing

A discreet world of wellness in Beijing
VERIFIED LUXURY
At the heart of the recently revitalized Peninsula Beijing is its spa, with a dozen private treatment rooms, including two suites, sumptuously decorated in a style that fuses Chinese touches like dark wooden lattice screens and rich silks with elegant tones of pure marble and textured granite.

What sets The Peninsula Spa Beijing apart is its tangible sense of transition on arrival. You leave the baronial elegance of The Peninsula behind and enter a hushed world of wellness, where the scents of sandalwood and your freshly prepared welcome tea permeate the air, evoking the essence of a China long since disappeared, perhaps, but the menu of innovative, East-West treatments is state of the art.

Signature therapies here are called Peninsula Ceremonies, like the Jade Hot Stone Massage, a two-hour wellness experience that harnesses the beneficial properties of jade, known in China as the “Stone of Heaven.” But the spa offers almost every treatment you can think of, including a nice range of options for men and more comprehensive half-day and full-day spa journeys.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The Beijing spa uses both ESPA and Biologique Recherche products in its treatments and indicates which in the treatment menu.
  • Along with contemporary therapies, The Peninsula Beijing Spa offers localized Chinese treatments, including cupping, scraping, reflexology and qi therapy.
  • Take time out to relax before or after treatments in the small but perfectly formed Oriental Tea Lounge.
  • You can combine your treatment with a workout session with a qualified physiotherapist who mixes TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) practices with personal fitness.
  • After a service, peruse the new art gallery between the spa and the gym.
Things to Know
  • The Peninsula Beijing is the first hotel in China to collaborate with the popular luxury skincare brand Biologique Recherche, making some of the treatments here one-of-a-kind.
  • You’ll be given a plush gown and disposable underwater (fabric, not the cheaper papery kind) before your treatments begin.
  • Services involve an aromatherapy testing session to match you with your fragrance (or the other way around).
  • If you’re tight on time, signature treatments can be shortened accordingly.
The Treatments
  • In addition to Chinese, Ayurvedic and European healing philosophies, The Peninsula Group cooperates with the world-renowned Wat Pho Thai Massage School in Bangkok, so the Royal Thai Massage here comes with the highest endorsement.
  • To beat the jetlag, get the two-hour Peninsula Sleep Ceremony, combining an aromatic bath with meditation and massage.
  • If you want to try some TCM, go with the Vital Qi, a deep pressure point massage.
  • Treatments for men include the volcanic stone massage, a deep tissue massage and a variety of purifying facials.
The Rooms
  • The pair of private treatment suites comes with enormous deep-soaking tubs for relaxing oil baths and infusions.
  • Each of the rooms has individual climate control — the default is 78 degrees, but this might a touch too warm for some, so adjust accordingly before you begin.
  • Rooms are equipped with marble showers and bathrooms, toiletries and private dressing facilities.
