Dramatic views in the British Virgin Islands
7 Treatment Rooms
Editor's Note: Sense, A Rosewood Spa at Little Dix Bay is closed for renovations. The spa will reopen in winter 2017.
On a ridge-top bluff overlooking the Caribbean, Sense, a Rosewood Spa at Little Dix Bay in the British Virgin Islands, has seven treatment cottages, most of which have windows that open up to the calming sound of ocean waves. The 5,200-square-foot cliffside retreat has an infinity-edge pool to lounge by pre- and post-treatment, as well as a hilltop yoga platform with dramatic views of the water. Treatments are decidedly Caribbean-inspired and use indigenous botanical ingredients grown and harvested on the resort’s grounds.
The Treatment Rooms
Perched high on a hilltop, individual treatment cottages have small terraces facing the sea, ideal for lounging around and maintaining a sense of bliss after a spa service. The couples Cliff Spa Suite includes a dining area, outdoor shower and hot tub. Couples using the suite can spring for a service that includes alone time to apply a healing mud mask to one another, a wrap and scalp massage, a 60-minute full-body massage, and 30 more minutes of private time to luxuriate in the secluded suite.
Caribbean customs and culture shine through during most of the services at the luxury spa. Local ingredients are cleverly used in an array of treatments, including Virgin Gorda honey, goat milk and salt from nearby Salt Island. Choose from the Caribbean specialty treatments and you’ll experience first-hand why those living in the tropics look so good and feel so relaxed. The Caribbean Breeze uses coconut oil, coconut milk and pineapple (among other ingredients) to exfoliate and hydrate skin; the Natural Neem Leaf Facial uses a paste made with leaves hand-picked from local neem trees.
Personal consultations help guests choose from a plethora of treatment options, and with a little diligence guests can narrow down what they need most. And if you opt for an item on the Sense Experiences menu, your therapist can likely hone in on two or more issues you’d like to address. The no-holds-bar four-and-half-hour Sense Journey, for instance, combines a wrap, massage, facial and pedicure for head-to-toe polished skin and relaxed muscles.
When arriving for a treatment, guests are served a tea made with local lemon grass and chamomile. Following each treatment guests are escorted to the treatment cottage's private outdoor terrace or the spa’s bi-level infinity-edge pool where they are offered a glass of cool coconut water. The outdoor yoga platform hosts daily yoga, Pilates and meditation classes. Complimentary nature hikes along the resort's Savannah Bay and Cowhill Trails are also offered. Separate men's and women's changing rooms include private lockers, outdoor showers, plush bathrobes, slippers and an extensive selection of toiletries.
