Built in 1893, the Buckhorn Exchange, Denver’s oldest (and most famous) restaurant, is part dining establishment, part saloon, and part museum. It’s worth a visit, if only to marvel at the collection of more than 500 wall-mounted, big-game hunting trophies, as well as photos and artifacts from the many dignitaries who have dined here. Its casual Western charm has been honed through 100 years of continuous service. Take the opportunity to sample buffalo sausage, fried alligator tail, or marinated rattlesnake before digging into one of Buckhorn’s famous steaks. On weekends, live music and dancing liven up the lounge upstairs, and the all-season roof garden is a great spot to soak up some rays on a nice day.
