Sprawled across the seventh floor of the glamorous Grand Hyatt Cannes Hôtel Martinez, L. Raphael Beauty Spa is where movie stars and those that want to look like one go for spa treatments in Cannes. A majestic spiral staircase winds its way up from the hotel to the exclusive space that seems to be inhabited only by those in the know.
Launched by L. Raphael in 2012, the Cannes spa represents the coveted Swiss beauty brand's theme of total wellness, with treatments designed to detoxify, slim and provide anti-aging results. Celebrities and royalty (Julianne Moore, Tilda Swinton, Princess Noor of Jordan) are fans of the brand known for its results-orientated oxygen facial treatments — one even uses diamonds to achieve a fresher-looking face.
The 9,688-square-foot luxury spa is much like a penthouse suite nestled among the top-tier rooms on the highest floor of the hotel. The spa lobby is filled with natural light and antique-looking furniture and the space feels like a luxurious tea room.
Here is where the experience starts, as you are greeted with a lemon juice detox, a blend of fresh lemon juice and mint. Sip the concoction on the comfy sofa or out on the terrace in one of the chaise lounge chairs surrounded by green foliage.
The Rooms and Amenities
While treatments teeter on the medical side, rooms feel anything but clinical. All nine of the treatment rooms feature natural light, adding a soothing glow to the spa experience. While simple in design (neutral walls, dark wood floors, billowy sheer white curtains), a hint of L. Raphael’s signature orange from the blankets to the candles add a fun and modern touch.
After treatments, you have full access to amenities like the two saunas and 24/7 fitness center (decked out with the latest equipment), which also has its own private terrace to on which to relax. You can also book services at the hair salon, where you sit in sleek leather chairs with chandeliers hanging overhead.
After receiving second-degree burns from a skin peeling in her teens, L. Raphael founder Ronit Raphael wanted to not only find a solution for her own skincare needs, but also help others. After two decades of research with a team of scientists and doctors, the brand has crafted four signature skincare lines that aim to help lift, tone, tighten, balance and reduce the effects of aging.
The anti-aging “oxy treatments,” which combine oxygen, ultrasound and ultra-gravity therapies, are among the most popular on the spa menu, helping even out skin tones, fade sun spots and make skin look rejuvenated and glowing. The Diamond Oxy-Lift is in high-demand here and works to exfoliate and purify your skin for a supremely refreshed, rejuvenated look.
Other treatments include more than 10 massage options, including one that uses warm volcanic stones and lavender oil and one that aims to obliterate jet lag with energy restoring aromatherapy oils. There are several body polishes and toning and tightening treatments to choose from, too. Hair, nail care and waxing services round out a comprehensive menu.
