Long hailed as one of the city’s most romantic restaurants, Chanterelle has been the
scene of many bent-knee, velvet-box-in-hand proposals. Indeed, this restaurant is a
New York dining icon. But Chanterelle, located on a sleepy corner in Tribeca, offers
much more than romance. Husband-and-wife owners David and Karen Waltuck (he
is the chef, she works the room) have served brilliant, unfussy, modern French fare
for more than 20 years. The menu, handwritten each week, reflects the best products
available from regional farmers, and the award-winning wine list makes meals here
near perfect.
