Stylish lofts in Charleston
The Restoration is discreetly tucked away off of King Street, Charleston’s most popular shopping strip. It makes sense that this property would sit among all of King Street’s high-end boutiques. The Restoration is a collection of stylish, apartment-style lofts that are a 180-degree turn from the colonial stateliness found in many of the city’s other upscale hotels.
With traits like that, you’d expect the structure to be a newly constructed one. The Restoration is far from it. One of the buildings that make up the hotel was made back in 1886. The others were erected in the early 1900s. Builders gutted the former row house and department store and initially envisioned condominiums for the location. When the market took a turn for the worst in the late 2000s, however, the property needed a new vision. This boutique hotel is the result.
The 54 über-spacious lofts have nice perks (washers and dryers, balconies in some) and are quite inviting (hardwood floors, exposed brick). Though your suite also comes with its own impressive kitchen (the concierge can stock the fridge), the hotel has a new seventh-floor restaurant, The Watch: Rooftop Kitchen & Spirits, serving up a menu of classic Lowcountry fare for those nights you don't feel like cutting on the stove.
The well-equipped, modern hotel fits right in with the trendy boutiques below on King Street.
