Who is the chef at Shanghai Terrace and what is his background?

Answers from Our Experts (2)

The chef at Shanghai Terrace is Ivan Yuen and he has been with the restaurant since 2003. Beginning as a line cook, working his way up to sous chef, and finally taking over in 2010, Yuen knows this restaurant inside and out. His creative skills have been quite the asset to menu development; and Shanghai Terrace certainly benefits from his extensive background in Chinese cooking.

After receiving his MBA at Shenzhen University in China, Yuen packed his bags and headed to the United States in 1989. Since then, he’s gone on to graduate from Chinese American Service League Chef Cooking School of Chicago and has received a Certificate of Training at Chefs Association of Chinese Cooking in New York — basically, he knows his Chinese cuisine. Prior to landing the job at Shanghai Terrace, Yuen was chef and director at the Jade Dragon Chinese Restaurant and China Palace Restaurant in Bensenville, Illinois.
