Travelle Kitchen + Bar is quite new — its restaurant opened in summer 2013. In general, it’s more casual during the day, and the scene becomes more elevated once the sun goes down. The lounge anchoring the southwest corner of the restaurant is a great spot for a pre-dinner aperitif or a nightcap after a long evening, but doesn’t necessarily cater to a boisterious nightlife crowd. That said, the bar and lounge offers live music Thursday through Saturday beginning at 9 p.m. A jazz vocalist entertains on Thursdays, more uptempo contemporary jazz reigns on Fridays and often an electric violinist covering pop standards performs on Saturdays.
Rather than aiming to be a restaurant whose patrons subscribe to the see-and-be-seen philosophy, Travelle strives to be a comfortable fine-dining spot (butter-colored leather banquets, low lighting and even lower music) as well as a regular neighborhood go-to for locals. Yet, the scene is quite diverse at the Chicago restaurant.
