The décor feels wonderfully old school at Refectory Restaurant & Bistro, where it fully embraces the building’s original purpose as a church. Lofted ceilings, original, exposed hand-hewn beams and stained-glass windows add drama to the main dining room. Soft candle lighting adds romantic flair, making the space feel intimate. There are plenty of tables just big enough for two, so it’s no surprise many an engagement proposal or anniversary dinner has happened here. And just as the celebrations vary, so too does the clientele. On any given evening you’ll find established regulars catching up with their favorite server, young couples on a romantic date and small family groups with kids of all ages out for a celebratory meal. However, the sit-down bar situated just beyond the hostess stand is the perfect spot for a more casual meal, but it comes with the same attentive service, cuisine and stained-glass-windowed setting.
