Nothing about this former speakeasy is fancy—the kitchen is the size of a closet, the bar is dark and food comes on either paper or plastic plates—but everything is memorable. The small pub menu is posted on the wall, but skip it and just order the bar’s namesake, the legendary Bistro Burger (eight ounces of broiled beef topped with bacon, cheese, onions, lettuce and tomato) and a side of fries. You’ll still have money left to plug the jukebox and get a mug or two of $2.50 drafts. But get here early—the line for one of the precious few tables gets long and frustrating, particularly on weekend nights.
