Edmonton’s best nightlife is concentrated around Whyte Avenue (82nd Avenue) on the city’s south side. The hippest strip in town from approximately 106th Street to 99th Avenue, Whyte Avenue is lined with restaurants, nightclubs, bars, pubs, and live music venues, and while popular with pedestrians during the day, it’s not until after dark that the street truly comes alive. On weekend nights year-round, you’ll find buskers playing guitar beneath trees twinkling with lights and streets packed with people, lining up to get into the most popular bars even in the coldest weather.
Those who aren’t in the mood to cross the river can find a good time downtown: here, the nightlife is centered along Jasper Avenue east of 109th Street and around 4th Street Promenade. For the most part, it’s more sophisticated — and less concentrated — than what you’ll find on Whyte Avenue.
