Bye, bye, blandness! Thanks to a recent renovation, Élan Hotel’s shabbier décor in beige shades has given way to contemporary lobby pieces in black with mustard accents. It’s a good deal for the location; the new rooms are simple (though not fancy) and make more of an attempt toward coolness than others in the same price range, by employing furniture with modern lines. Although great views are hard to find—some look out on a tire store—goose-down comforters, luxe cotton bath sheets, room service and complimentary breakfast make the experience comfortable. Plus, the hotel is just one block from the Beverly Center and only five minutes from newer outdoor mall The Grove and the historic Farmers Market, where food options range from barbecue to Brazilian to Mexican (try the pumpkin-pork tacos).
