About Elmsford, New York:
The next time you sip a cocktail, raise your glass to little Elmsford. Local lore says that
during the Revolutionary War, French and colonial officers would imbibe at the town’s
tavern. Betsy the barmaid would garnish their drinks with chicken feathers that the colonial
troops stole from the Tories’ hen coops. Thus, Elmsford became the first place Americans
drank “cocktails.”
