Separated from Kentucky by the Ohio River, Evansville has retained some of the atmosphere of the busy river town of the days when steamboats plied the waters of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. The largest city in southern Indiana, Evansville combines the pleasant and leisurely ways of the South with the industrious activity of the North.

Evansville is the principal transportation, trade, and industrial center of southwestern Indiana. A modern river/rail/highway terminal facilitates simultaneous exchange of cargo between trucks, freight trains, and riverboats. Local industry manufactures refrigerators, agricultural equipment, aluminum ingots and sheets, furniture, textiles, nutritional and pharmaceutical products, and plastics.

The Ohio River offers many recreational opportunities for boating, swimming, water-skiing, and fishing.
