Ann Fitzpatrick-Brown

Owner & General Manager

  • Lenox, Massachusetts, USA

In 1980, Jack and Jane Fitzpatrick fell in love with the abandoned Blantyre and organized to purchase it for their daughter, Ann Fitzpatrick Brown, who became the eighth owner. Determined to restore it to its former elegance, Ann reopened Blantyre in 1981, after extensive renovation. Blantyre achieved the vision of the Fitzpatricks; a beautiful country house, recognized as one of the finest hotels in the world, where guests can come and stay and experience the life and service of a bygone era. In May 2005, Blantyre opened its doors for the first time in 25 years as a year-round operation, along with The Potting Shed, Blantyre’s cozy and intimate spa.

What are the bathrooms like in the rooms at Blantyre?

Half of our accommodations have two bathrooms and many of our guests have told us that this arrangement (two bathrooms) is the secret to a happy marriage. Almost all of our rooms have separate soaking tubs and rainfall showers. Like our rooms, they are all very individual and beautifully appointed.

What five things do we love most about Blantyre?

Our size is perfect for wonderful, full property take-overs, birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, a corporate retreat, a birthday surprise and weddings. Blantyre is the perfect size for 2 people or 50. In the winter months, we have snow barbeques in the fire around the “circle of stones” next to our giant ice rink (our 3 tennis courts, flooded). We serve lunch on the ice rink, dinner in the Warming Hut and serve our signature hot chocolate menu on the ice rink itself.

Lenox is the summer home of the Boston Symphony at Tanglewood, and Blantyre is just a five-minute drive from a concert under the stars. Blantyre is central to the best in antiquing, museums and theater. Each holiday at Blantyre is full of traditions of a country house — New Years’ Eve with a small orchestra, Valentine’s Day with bouquets of black roses (a sign of passion from the sixteenth century) and Thanksgiving, where the resort is surrounded by pumpkins everywhere.

What are the five best things about Blantyre?

The five best things about Blantyre are:

    1. Our warm and friendly staff have the sole focus of making our guests stay relaxing, peaceful and wonderful.

    2. Our beautiful rooms. In the main house, our sweeping oak staircase leads our guests to eight bedrooms. Each room is very individual, but all are decorated to the highest standards with a décor that you would typically find in one of the great houses of Europe. I have meticulously selected the wall coverings and drapery to maintain the bygone elegance of the property. Each room has been carefully and thoughtfully furnished with wonderful antiques and our guest always find something to read from our collection of more than 4,000 books. Away from the main house are beautiful rooms in the Carriage House and our wonderful cottages.

    3. Our award winning menus created by our talented French chef and his team. Our guests can have each exquisite dish paired with one of our 15,000 bottles of wine.

    4. Our spa, which has a range of relaxing treatments. These include facials, massage, hydrating treatments, manicures and pedicures. There is also has an outdoor pool.

    5. The extensive hot chocolate menu is unique to us. In the winter, our guests can enjoy a romantic evening skate on our ice rink then retire to our warming hut for their favorite hot chocolate, always served with housemade marshmallows and warm banana bread.
