What are the best activities to do in Houston?

If you are a foodie, you will not want to miss Haute Wheels, the Food Truck Festival on March 23rd-24th.  Over 34 of the cities finest chefs will be parking their vehicles on the Houston Community College Southwest Campus, and serving up the fine gourmet truck delicacies that Houston is quickly being known for.  Throw in a healthy heaping of craft beer, fine wine, and live music, and it is sure to get your motor running.

    Theatre
Everyone knows about the big time theatre companies in Houston like The Alley and Theatre Under the Stars, but some of the cities finest talent can be found in its smaller and grittier indie theatre scene.  Here’s what’s playing this month:

If you are in the mood to hear the voice of the bard, the ridiculously talented folks at the Classical Theatre Company will be delivering their rendition of the Merchant of Venice March 27th - April 14th.  If you are a fan of classical theatre, this company is a must-see while you are in Houston.

If musical theatre is a little more your bag, be sure to visit Texas Repertory Theatre on the north side of town, for Sondheim’s Company March 14th- April 7th

    Discovery Green
Relax and become one with nature, while also enjoying stunning views of the Houston skyline.  This month Discovery Green offers weekly Kayak classes on Kinder Lake, Zumba, Bum-ba (bun toning), and Yoga.

March 12th - if you’re feeling a little bit silly, and interested in revisiting memories of spring break foam parties, you’ll love  Ballet & Bubbles.  The exquisite Houston Ballet will preform from noon until 1:00, then the foam party begins immediately afterward.

March 13 and 27th - If you are feeling blue around lunchtime, top by the Green for their Blues and Burgers lunchtime concertC

Where is the best shopping in Houston?

Ask any local fashionable lady where they are shopping these days, and inevitably the words Cakewalk Style Shop will saunter off of their lips.  Style loving ladies are drawn to it’s fabulous mix of designer clothing, accessories, and stunning baubles designed by co-owner Gina Cartwright.  With Cartwright’s designs, and co-owner Jennifer Grigsby’s background as a wardrobe stylist, you know a visit to Cakewalk is going to truly be something special. Like shopping around the clock?  You are in luck, Cakewalk not only exists as a beautiful brick and mortar, but also an online shop so you can browse to your content 24/7.  My current obsessions:  The Sunburst mirror necklace, the classic Halston Heritage Belted Shirtdress, and their Tibi Amber Mint Heels.

What are the best concert venues in Houston?

Any day of the week, you are guaranteed to be able to find a great concert anywhere in the city of Houston. While large shows and big names generally make their way to the Cynthia Mitchell Woods Pavilion or the Toyota Center, there are numerous venues with a more intimate atmosphere that host all types of acts from all over the world.  Some of the most popular include Warehouse Live, Fitzgeralds, Bayou City Music Center, House of Blues, and the Big Easy.

What are the best places to see a play in Houston?

There are many accomplished theatre companies in Houston. The city is home to the Alley Theatre, one of the nations largest and most important regional theatres. Other professional theatres that regularly show critically acclaimed work are Stages Repertory, Mainstreet Theatre, The Ensemble Theatre, Texas Rep Theatre, and Theatre under the Stars.  If you are into the nitty gritty indie theatre company world, be sure to check out Stark Naked Theatre. The company at Stark Naked is exceptionally talented, and puts on some of best work Houston has to offer.   Other stellar small companies include Classical Theatre Company and Pendulum Theatre Company.
