What bars does Terranea Resort have?

Whether you’re looking for a laid-back lounge or an evening sunset, Terranea Resort has something to offer for all of its guests. The massive oceanfront resort houses a slew of restaurants and bars, all with stunning views. Head to The Lobby Bar & Lounge for an easy vibe, complete with indoor and outdoor fireplaces, California wines by the glass, cocktails such as the Lavender Collins (Hendricks gin, house made lavender syrup, fresh lime and lemon) and small bites such as shrimp cocktail or red wine braised pulled pork sliders. Stop by for live music on Friday and Saturday nights, too. Nelson’s is Terranea’s bar and restaurant located above the ocean coves at the resort, and it’s the premiere place to watch the sunset. Inspired by environmental preservation, furnishings at this cozy spot feature recycled items such as a bar countertop made out of reclaimed wine bottles. Grab a seat outside by the fire pits and enjoy a microbrew, or opt to stay for a complete meal.

    Where is Terranea Resort located?

It’s hard to believe that Terranea Resort is located only 30 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles. Situated in the picturesque cliffside area of Rancho Palos Verdes, the sprawling resort overlooks the glittering blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, where the Catalina Islands can be spotted in the distance. Terranea sits on 102 acres of pristine land on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, but it only occupies a quarter of the space in order to leave more than 75 acres for outdoor exploration and preservation. What was originally the famous Marineland theme park until the late 1980s became the spot for Terranea, which opened in 2009, and the location has appeared in scenes for Hollywood movies such as the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Aviator, Pearl Harbor and Charlie’s Angels. The resort is also conveniently situated only three miles down the road from Trump National Golf Course.

    Where is Ai Fiori located?

Located on the second floor of the elegant Langham Place, Fifth Avenue, Ai Fiori instantly takes you away from the hustle and bustle outside; once you step out of the elevator or climb to the top of the stairs leading into its bar, you’ll feel at ease. While the restaurant may feel like it’s nowhere near New York City, Ai Fiori’s location is quite convenient. Langham Place, Fifth Avenue can be found in the city’s Midtown Manhattan neighborhood along the famous shopping street. Its position puts you within easy distance of many of the Big Apple’s best attractions such as Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building, Bryant Park and, of course, shopping on Fifth Avenue. Put loosely, the vibrancy of New York City is right at your feet.

Who is the chef at Ai Fiori?

You may recognize chef Michael White from his other successful restaurants, including Al Molo in Hong Kong and Marea in New York City, and White and his hospitality brand, Altamarea Group, opened Ai Fiori in November 2010. White boasts an impressive culinary background, from formal training at the Kendall College School of Culinary Arts in Chicago to stints abroad in Italy and France. In 2001, White served as the chef de cuisine at the highly lauded Spiaggia restaurant in Chicago, and eventually penned a cookbook, Fiamma: The Essence of Contemporary Italian Cooking, from his time as executive chef at Fiamma Osteria. Needless to say, Michael White brings strong culinary expertise to Ai Fiori, and the same impressive skills can also be seen in the restaurant’s chef de cuisine, PJ Calapa.

What’s the menu like at Ai Fiori?

From the beginning, Ai Fiori’s concept has stemmed from the cuisine of the French and Italian Riviera. Therefore, you’ll find a menu heavily dominated by a blend of dishes from those seaside regions of Italy and France. When chef Michael White and Ahmass Fakahany (CEO of the Altamarea Group hospitality brand) concocted the plan for the menu, the premise was to take traditional dishes and add a more contemporary twist. The result? Playful plates such as ratatouille made with a crispy tempura squash blossom or a new version of lobster bisque made with slices of raw lobster and hot cream. The menus change seasonally to keep things fresh and varied, but for dinner you can expect to find pastas such as ricotta and mascarpone ravioli with sottocenere and a red wine glaze, or fish dishes such as pan-seared sea scallops with corn, chanterelles, pancetta and polenta.

Breakfast options run the gamut from buttermilk pancakes with apple compote and honey ricotta to a duck hash with duck confit, poached egg, tomato hollandaise and scallion. Ai Fiori serves a two-course lunch for $42 where you can order starters such as a roasted beet salad with Greek yogurt, pine nuts and apples, and main course dishes such as Atlantic cod with faro, nettles, pearl onion and chicken consommé. But don’t forget about dessert. The restaurant’s impressive sweets selection offers options such as panna cotta made with goat’s milk crema, candied fennel and apricot sorbetto, as well as a curated cheese list.

What’s the best time to visit The Wort Hotel?

The best time to visit The Wort Hotel between the mud seasons. Jackson Hole has five distinct seasons: summer (usually June to August), fall (September through October), mud (November), winter (December through March) and mud (April and May). In the summer and fall, the hotel is at the center of the valley’s action. Downtown Jackson Hole is bustling, and it’s easy to drive the 20 minutes to Grand Teton National Park or Teton Village. Each September, Jackson hosts a two-week Fall Arts Festival. If you stay at The Wort during this time, you’re smack-dab in the middle of everything. The Jackson Hole hotel has a great energy those two weeks. In the winter, the entire valley quiets down a bit. While some skiers prefer to stay 15 minutes away in Teton Village, others like staying in Jackson and driving out to Teton Village to ski (you can use The Wort's private, complimentary ski shuttle to get there). If you like the idea of the latter, there’s a bus stop with service to Teton Village a block away from the luxury hotel’s front door. Another reason to stay in Jackson Hole: There are more restaurants, bars and shops in Jackson than in Teton Village. For those looking to check out local museums and do other indoor activities, the two mud seasons are all right times to come; just don’t expect to do much outside (though May is a popular time to check out the wildlife in area parks). Many locals leave the valley during those periods.

What are the rooms like at The Wort Hotel?

Jackson Hole’s only National Historic Hotel of America and on the National Register of Historic Places, The Wort Hotel opened in 1941 when downtown’s street were still dirt. The dirt is long gone, but little else has changed on the hotel’s exterior, including the red rock trim the Wort brothers quarried themselves in the Gros Ventre (pronounced “Gro Vont” in Jacksonese) Mountains bounding the east side of Jackson Hole. The interior is another story though: Fili D’oro linens; a permanent art collection with nearly 100 original pieces (some of which are used in six roomy, themed suites) by Western and wildlife artists; rich, deep colors; hand-carved suite doors and custom wooden furniture; and double-pillow-top mattresses are recent additions. Altogether, you get an Old World rustic Western elegance you can’t find anywhere else in the valley.

Where is The Wort Hotel located?

First things first: Even though spelled like it rhymes with “fort,” The Wort Hotel — located in Jackson Hole — is pronounced (in proper Jacksonese) as “The Wirt hotel.” Pronunciation lesson out of the way, The Wort has a good central location. It is a half-block from Jackson Hole’s famous elk-antler-arched Town Square on one of the city’s main streets, Broadway Avenue. Downtown Jackson Hole’s best restaurants, like The Kitchen and Snake River Grill, are only a few minutes’ walk away. The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, which does free Western swing lessons at 7 p.m. every Thursday and has live music most weekends, is around the corner. Just across the street from the luxury hotel in the Wort Plaza is a patisserie, Coco Love, run by culinary Olympian Oscar Ortega, who makes the best bonbons you’ll ever have. Jackson Hole Airport is a quick 15-minute drive from The Wort. The southern entrance to Grand Teton National Park is 20 minutes away, and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, which is one of the country’s top ski areas, is also 20 minutes away, but in a different direction than the park.

What restaurants does Hotel Lucia have?

Adjacent to Hotel Lucia’s lobby is one of the city’s hottest new restaurants: Imperial. Owned by Vitaly Paley, a legendary Portland chef, the restaurant serves a menu of new American cuisine, much of which is prepared in the huge roaring wood-fired grill that anchors the open kitchen. Choose from dishes such as salt-roasted spot prawns, duck meatballs, steak with chanterelles, roasted carrots with wild plum glaze and sticky toffee gingerbread with baked pears. In case you’d rather stick to the confines of your room, a limited menu is available for in-room service at the Forbes Travel Guide Recommended hotel, as are five delicious flavors of locally-made Salt & Straw ice cream.

What’s the best time to visit The Allison Inn & Spa in Oregon?

With a temperate coastal climate, the Willamette Valley—home to the luxury resort The Allison Inn & Spa—is alluring to visit any time of the year. The time when the area most shines is fall, which brings mild temperatures and the excitement of harvest and crush. Hazelnuts are harvested and wild mushrooms sprout. The summer’s reliable sunshine draws visitors to the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel, thanks to temperatures that hover around 80 degrees and events such as the Pinot Noir Festival in late July. The Willamette Valley's extended spring means you'll see orchard blossoms and bud breaks on the area’s thousands of acres of grapevines. It’s rainy during the winter months, but it’s also when the Oregon Truffle Festival takes place. Winter is a quieter time, a chance to cozy up next to in-room fireplaces and observe the flourishing green hillsides.
