On October 11, 2012Jaydine Sayer answered the question:Several of the 100 events at this year’s Kohler Food & Experience are free. Held in Kohler, Wis., the 2012 festival will run from October 18 to 21 and feature a wide range of seminars on culinary topics and tastings. There are several complimentary events each day. The Woodlake Market will hold seminars on a range of culinary topics in the Atrium Café throughout Friday and Saturday, hosted by Stone’s Throw Winery. On Friday at the Kohler Design Center, Kohler’s head pastry chef and health proponent Richard Palm will prepare low-glycemic index desserts and will give his recipes to attendees. On Saturday, head back to the Kohler Design Center to sample a range of foods, from chocolates to olive oil. For What is French Fun & Tasty? Cocktails Naturally, find out how to mix seasonal, fresh ingredients into sophisticated drinks at home.
While there are a slew of other complimentary events, consider many of the ticketed sessions — prices start at just $19. For a complete listing of culinary events (ticketed and free) at Kohler Food & Wine Experience, visit The American Club’s website.
On October 11, 2012Jaydine Sayer answered the question:Kohler Food & Wine Experience is a festival that stretches over four days, from October 18 to 21 in and around The American Club, a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel in Kohler, Wis. There are more than 100 sessions planned, including tastings, how-to wine pairings and even a few beer-tasting educational seminars. But there are three marquee events every foodie should mark on his calendar: Chef’s Challenge, Taste of the Vine and Feast of Talent.
Chef’s Challenge is the kick-off event held on Thursday evening and provides an excellent opportunity to mix and mingle with star chefs. This year, three guests, including the Food Network’s Anne Burrell, will judge chef-prepared meals, which will then be auctioned off to the highest bidder. On Friday evening, Taste of the Vine is held at the sleek Kohler Design Center and will give you a chance to taste vino from all of the different vendors presenting over the weekend. And on Saturday night, attend Feast of Talent, a more intimate event hosted by Kohler Food & Wine Experience’s celebrity chefs: Burrell, America’s Test Kitchen host Christopher Kimball and Chicago chef/restaurateur Tony Mantuano. Snag a ticket to this event, and you’ll eat dishes prepared by the chefs (we hear Mantuano has a gnocchi and boar ragu planned).

On October 11, 2012Jaydine Sayer answered the question:Kohler Food & Wine Experience isn’t only for those interested in tasting wine — there’s a bevy of bourbon, beer, rum and cider vendors showing off their best spirits, too. And the newest event for the 2012 festival held October 18 to 21 in Kohler, Wis., proves the dinner-and-drinks routine isn’t limited to fine vintages. Held on Friday night, Shake & Stir — N’awlins-Style features rum cocktails paired with a three-course Creole-inspired meal (including cocktail-making tips). Other non-wine events include Wisconsin’s Brewing History, Pig Cheese Cocktail and Crispin Cider Mixology and Pairing.
For more new festival additions, check out Port & Cookies and Port & Chocolate, hosted by Kohler’s chocolatier Peter Clemens and Kohler’s pastry chef Richard Palm. They will lead the seminars on how to pair port with unique ingredients, like chocolate chip cookies.
Also debuting over the weekend festival is the Bourbon on the Rocks pedicure at Kohler Waters Spa, a stunning Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star spa. The seasonal treatment includes a nectar-powder milk foot soak, a bourbon-infused scrub and a honey-glaze mask. It’s a fitting way to cap off the alcohol-filled weekend.
On October 11, 2012Jaydine Sayer answered the question:There will be ample opportunities to sip and swirl vino with wine experts and vineyard owners throughout the four-day Kohler Food & Wine Experience held October 18 to 21 in Kohler, Wis. The primo wine event is Taste of the Vine, held inside the stunning Kohler Design Center on Friday. During the evening, taste wines from almost every vendor at the festival, including names like Mondavi, Cakebread, Domaine Serene and Lancaster Estate. We suggest you load up on the hors d’oeuvres before heading back to your room at The American Club, the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel on the Kohler campus.
While there will be a slew of seminars and tasting events throughout the wine-fueled weekend, there are a few of note we can suggest. 100 Years of Chardonnay by Wente Family Vineyards will be led by winemaker Phillip Wente and will feature five chardonnays, including one that is only available at the California winery. Marc Mondavi will show you how eight different cabernet sauvignons from Charles Krug stack up during the Howell Mountain Cabernet Comparative. But perhaps the Port & Cookies workshop is the most enticing — this one features instructions on how to pair various ports with different desserts, including the all-American chocolate chip cookie.

On October 11, 2012Jaydine Sayer answered the question:Midwestern foodies and oenophiles will get a chance to see internationally known chefs at this year’s Kohler Food & Wine Experience from October 18 to 21. Several star chefs and food personalities are scheduled to judge, juggle and join in on culinary competitions and demonstrations held at and around The American Club, a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star resort in Kohler, Wis.
Food Network star Anne Burrell is the guest judge of the Chef’s Challenge, the kick-off event for the four-day festival. Tony Mantuano may be known as President Obama’s favorite chef (he has dined at Mantuano’s Spiaggia in Chicago on special occasions), but the Italian cuisine aficionado probably won’t be cooking for any heads of state in Kohler. Instead, he’ll hold a cooking demonstration (don’t skip the shrimp meatballs), host the Saturday night Feast of Talent event and create a Friday beer pairings luncheon co-hosted by Stella Artois. The latter will introduce a “beeramisu” dessert — a traditional tiramisu made with a dark beer.
Other big-name chefs include Lidia Bastianich, author of Lidia’s Italy and restaurateur, and Christopher Kimball, America’s Test Kitchen host and author. If you’re clamoring to meet and mingle with the chefs, get a ticket to Thursday night’s Chef Challenge — if past events are any guide, the star toques usually show up for the weekend’s inaugural event.
