What is the design style of Capital Hotel?

The design style of Capital Hotel mirrors the traditional architecture of the late 1800s. The hotel has a unique pre-fabricated cast-iron facade, which guided the rest of the design decisions.  Built as the Denckla Block in 1872, the hotel was originally a set of shops and bachelor quarters turned into accommodations to suit visitors and politicians attending sessions at the nearby Arkansas Statehouse (now the Old Statehouse Museum). After a fire at the city's leading hotel, the Denkla building was transformed into Capital Hotel. The name was inspired by a local grande dame, who assured the developer, "It's a capital building, and I am sure it would make a capital enterprise...." A recent renovation has restored the property to its glory days. From broad maroon awnings shading guest room windows to a balcony overlooking Markham Street to the impressive columns within and without the hotel, the Little Rock hotel speaks of grandeur, luxury and beauty.

What’s the best time to visit Capital Hotel?

While Little Rock’s temperate climate allows for a great visit year-round, depending on your tastes, you might find certain seasons make better times to visit Capital Hotel. Spring guests can enjoy the bounty of festivals held in nearby Riverfront Park as well as the beginning of the Little Rock Farmers’ Market. In the autumn, Markham Street and President Clinton Avenue are ablaze with the bronzes and deep reds of changing leaves. During the holiday season, the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel is decorated in nouveau-Victorian style complete with a complex gingerbread village created by the Little Rock hotel’s pastry chef. Summer visitors are greeted with hand-squeezed lemonade and cold bottles of water. In every season, a well-trained and coordinated uniformed staff is available to help plan outings.

    Where is Capital Hotel located?

Capital Hotel is located at the corner of West Markham and Louisiana streets in downtown Little Rock, Ark. The hotel is just two blocks away from the Arkansas River so upper story rooms have views of the river.  It’s a short two-block walk from the Four-Star hotel to the River Market Entertainment District — home to eclectic shopping, a variety of restaurants, art galleries, the Little Rock Farmers’ Market, a library and the Clinton Presidential Center. The Little Rock hotel sits within a few business corridor blocks from the Pulaski County Courthouse, the Old Statehouse Museum, Statehouse Convention Center and Robinson Center, with close and easy access to Interstate 30 and the Main Street Bridge into North Little Rock.
