What are the best festivals in Stockholm?

For a long time,  there was only the Stockholm Jazz Festival, but during the last years there's been a few new exciting additions. Great for the music life, and great for visitors who prefer staying in apartments (or nice hotels) instead of living in a damp tent.

    Dans Dakar, June 1th.
Dance oriented groups like Prodigy, Röyksopp and Justice, show up for this one day festival. The festival is at the university in the north of Stockholm.

    Hultsfredsfestivalen. June 13-15th
Still named after the small town in the middle of Sweden where it was based until 2012, this year The Hultsfred Festival has moved to Sigtuna just outside Stockholm. So far the biggest name is My Bloody Valentine, but check out their website as they've only gotten started.

Stockholm Music & Arts, August 2-4th
Prince, Rodriguez, First Aid Kit, Regina Spector and Billy Bragg are among the artists performing this year. If the weather is good, the experience will be amazingl. The festival is located on Skeppsholmen, a small island with Moderna Museet (Museum of Modern Art) and not much else.

    Popaganda, August 30-31th
They have not released any names yet, but in the last years groups like Belle & Sebastian and Arcade Fire have played here, so you probably can guess that it is mainly alternative bands. The festival is at Eriksdalsbadet, and close to the popular summer hang out Trädgården under bron (The garden under the bridge).

    Stockholm Jazz Festival, 14-20th October
This year the only known booking is Avashi Cohen with strings, but Stockholm Jazz Festival usually get a strong line up of artists. And it is not only jazz either. During the years,  it has been visited by Kanye West, Steely Dan and Mary J Blige.

What are the best bookstores in Stockholm?

The most popular bookstore in Stockholm is Hedengrens on Stureplan, which is something of a cultural institution. They have a good selection of both swedish and international books (and some literary journals and magazines). It is quite cozy, and it is easy to get stuck for hours.
Rönnells is situated just a few blocks up along Birger Jarlsgatan. It is an antiquarian bookstore, with a rather large international section. Rönnells also offers different cultural events in the evenings. They are highly popular, so their schedule is worth checking out.
If Hedengrens does not offer what you need, The English Bookshop on Lilla Nygatan in Gamla stan (Old town) might have it in store. It is small but with a good selection, and always carry work by translated swedish authors.
Papercut on Krukmakargatan on Södermalm is not a bookstore per se – they offer magazines and films as well –  but they sell new  literature and some classics, often with a hipster touch.
Akademibokhandeln on Mäster Samuelsgatan also has a great international selection, and in Bok-Skotten, on the other side of the street from Akademibokhandeln, there is always the possibility of finding great books very cheap..

What are the best places for breakfast in Stockholm?

The number one place for breakfast is the Grand Hôtel. It is rather expensive, but you can pick almost whatever you like in a luxury surrounding and with high quality. The atmosphere is tranquil and private, and perfect for a business meeting.
Riche on Birger Jarlsgatan is also a  good choice. It is close to the Stureplan square and is the main hangout for ads and media people, both in the morning, at lunch and at night. Eggs Benedict is the best pick on a very good menu.
Just a few blocks away are Zink grill, a french inspired bistro, on Biblioteksgatan. It offers breakfast in very beautiful premises from 07.30 in the morning as is good for everything from a fast espresso to a long sitting with your newspaper or tablet.

Where is the best hamburger in Stockholm?

This is not an easy question to answer because right now there's a lot of places fighting for that title. Stockholm is in the middle of a hamburger-related mania. But the three strongest contenders are Pubologi in Gamla stan (Old Town) and Allmänna Galleriet (AG) and Flippin' Burgers on Kungsholmen.
Pubologi is the small gastropub run by the team behind Djuret, a popular and much praised nose to tail-restaurant. The hamburger is also served at Tweed, the new bar in the same building.
Allmänna Galleriet is famous for its meat, and should not be missed. The hamburger might feel like a boring choice while reading the menu, but do not be fooled. If you like hamburgers, you will not be disappointed.
Flippin' Burgers was last autumns most popular restaurants, and the cookbook has been high on the charts in Sweden. They do not take bookings, so the line was about fifty meters when they opened at 17.00, and it is still smart to show up early if you want a seat. Owner Jon Widegren travelled all over the US to learn his craft, and it shows, both visually and in taste.
