What kind of skincare products are used at The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg?

The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg uses several skincare lines. Naturopathica is a U.S.-based natural and organic line that focuses on anti-aging, and Sothys is a France-based company that uses cosmeceuticals and marine and botanical ingredients. The spa’s Premier Body Treatments use a variety of spices, enzymes, vitamins and natural earth elements. For instance, the Sarsaparilla Espresso Mud Treatment is a detoxifying scrub and mud wrap of volcanic pumice and black sit clay followed by sarsaparilla and coffee arabica. The spa’s facials also incorporate natural elements — mild botanicals such as chamomile, oats, aloe and calendula — to cleanse and moisturize the skin.

You will also come across the spa's own signature bath and body products, which can be purchased at the onsite boutique (if you're staying in one of Colonial Williamsburg’s guest rooms, you'll find some of these items in the bathrooms as well). Invigorating scents of orange ginger and soothing lavender lemongrass are bottled into sugar scrubs, body butters, lotions, hand soaps, deodorants, sea salt body scrubs and even hair sprays.

Does The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg offer couples treatments?

Couples can enjoy a side-by-side treatment at The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg in the private Rose Garden Suite, which has a soaking tub, private shower and massage tables. Mothers and daughters, fathers and sons and college friends are frequent fans of the side-by-side services. A couple’s 30-minute bath can be added to the side-by-side treatment for $85. Order a meal from the spa's Wysteria Lounge when you book your couple’s treatment so that you can have post-massage salads, artisan cheese trays, fresh crudités or finger sandwiches.

What are the rooms like at the Williamsburg Lodge?

The 323 rooms in Williamsburg Lodge take decorative inspiration from Colonial Williamsburg’s Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Museum. Patterns and designs from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries are seen in the quilts, draperies and pillows used in the lodge’s guest rooms, which are furnished with pieces constructed from warm woods. Folk-inspired artwork and tapestries line the cedar-paneled walls in the guest rooms and hallways of the lodge. The room options range from 325-square-foot superior guest rooms with queen-sized beds to 500-square-foot lodge suites with a queen bed, separate sitting quarters and kitchenette area.  Four new guesthouses, the Ashby and Curtis houses with 30 rooms, and the Nicholas and Tyler houses with 38 new rooms, were added to the lodge in a recent addition, and are connected to the main lodge by a series of covered walkways.

What is the design style of Williamsburg Inn?

In an effort to preserve historical authenticity, Williamsburg Inn’s interior designer worked closely with historians and archivists to replicate textiles, paint colors and wallpaper patterns throughout the property. The result is a mix of floral, classic and restoration styles, which you’ll see in the front room, library, sitting areas and guest rooms. Former interior designer Susan Winther joined the hotel in 1976 as an apprentice to Eleanor Duncan, who set a precedent at the inn to reupholster and refinish furniture with historical accuracy. Today, Cheryl Griggs, who worked with Winther for 15 years, is the inn’s interior designer. Griggs makes sure the upholstery fabric looks fresh and furniture is arranged appropriately. Lining the walls of the historic hotel are John James Audubon prints of Virginia birds, most of which have been donated by generations of guests. Other gifts in the inn include a 19th-century grandfather clock in the lobby, as well as vases and urns from Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller Jr.

What restaurants does Williamsburg Inn have?

For elegant fine dining, the Regency Room, located in Williamsburg Inn’s West Wing, serves classic American food in a beautifully decorated space overlooking The Golden Horseshoe Golf Club. The room takes inspiration from period design of the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, England, decorated with crystal chandeliers, silk draperies and leather dining chairs. A rotating, seasonal menu includes specialties such as oyster Rockefeller, crabmeat Randolph, country-fried quail, wild flower and mushroom salad and Berkshire pork tenderloin schnitzel. Sunday brunch is also served in the Regency Room, and favorites include the Chesapeake Bay crab Benedict, bananas Foster and steak and eggs.

For a more casual dining experience, visit the Terrace Room overlooking the inn’s back patio and one of the Gold Course’s driving range. Lunchtime offers a slew of soups, salads and sandwiches, and afternoon tea includes tea blends made especially for the inn served with an assortment of scones, finger sandwiches, champagne and sparkling ciders. Adjacent to the Terrace Room is the luxury hotel’s Restoration Bar, where you can meet for a nightcap after a full day on the golf course or traveling back in time at Colonial Williamsburg.

What is the dress code at Kimball’s Kitchen?

While you’ll be spending most of your days in the Outer Banks bathing-suit-clad frolicking in the surf, you’ll need to leave the beach attire at the beach if planning to dine at Kimball’s Kitchen. The restaurant’s dress code is described as resort casual. You’ll find women in long, beachy maxi dresses and sandals and men wearing polos or button-up shirts with khakis to dinner. Kimball’s Kitchen recommends collared shirts for men, and advises that dress or resort shorts are fine. Jackets or sport coats are not required.
