About Farmington, Connecticut:
In 1802 and 1803, 15,000 yards of linen cloth were loomed in Farmington, and 2,500 hats were made in a shop on Hatter's Lane. There were silversmiths, tinsmiths, cabinetmakers, clockmakers, and carriage builders. Today, Farmington is a beautiful community--one of New England's museum pieces. It is also the home of Miss Porter's School (1844), a well-known private preparatory school for girls.
