The best way to see the Florida Gulf Coast in one day is to take a drive down Highway 98, which threads through the gulf coast between Port St. Joe and Pensacola. You’ll pass by beautiful beaches, fishing piers, bridges and cute, coastal small towns. Though stop signs and visitors delay the drive, they also serve as an excuse to pull over to walk along a boardwalk or simply enjoy the view. When you get close to Santa Rosa Beach, be sure to follow Highway 30-A for 28 miles (it runs along the shoreline, while 98 curves inward). Stop at Seaside, which is halfway between Panama City and Destin. It’s where Jim Carrey filmed the movie The Truman Show, and is a picture-perfect town with pastel houses, an ice cream shop and chic beach-casual style.
