This historic ethnic restaurant has been on the same site for more than three-quarters of a century. It is located on the Kuhio Highway (Hwy 56) in the small town of Hanamaulu, which is adjacent to Lihue. Although the menu features a combination of Japanese and Chinese cuisine, the décor is primarily Japanese. The front dining room is nondescript, but the rear of the restaurant features a sushi bar, a classical garden teahouse, and traditional private Japanese dining areas, with cushioned seating around sunken tables. This popular establishment has a great following both for dining in and for takeout.
