Fuchun Resort Hangzhou

A storybook village retreat
VERIFIED LUXURY
Overlooking a lake and surrounded by rolling green tea fields, Fuchun Resort Hangzhou offers city dwellers a chance to get away from it all and surround themselves with nature. The resort is located in the village of Fuyang, a 45-minute drive from Hangzhou. There, you can participate in activities such as golfing on the resort’s 18-hole course, biking, hiking, calligraphy lessons, swimming, orange picking, and tai chi and yoga. Or simply relax on the restaurant’s terrace that overlooks the lake, sipping a cup of locally harvested longjing tea. (Little ones can stay busy in the kids’ playroom.)

After winding down, retreat into one of Fuchun Resort Hangzhou’s 28 rooms or 57 suites. They look out at either the garden or the lake, and windows open so you can let in the fresh countryside air. Rooms are furnished with simple, elegant dark wood pieces and are spacious, comfortable and homey.

Our Inspector's Highlights
• Fuchun Resort Hangzhou is designed like a traditional Song Dynasty structure.

• It was inspired by local artist Huang Gongwan’s 13th-century scroll painting A Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, a traditional Chinese landscape whose images are accurately reflected in the hotel’s surroundings.

• The hotel’s design style is traditional Chinese with a contemporary spin and elements of Balinese design, but simple. Nothing is flashy here; in the lobby, dark wooden pillars gleam in the entryway, and colorful contemporary Chinese art from Taiwan hangs on the walls.

• The Hangzhou hotel is designed so that nearly all spaces have windows so you can enjoy the gorgeous natural surroundings — namely the rolling tea plantations and the lake.

• It’s tranquil and quiet; on a clear night, you’ll be able to see a sky full of stars.
Things to Know
• Because Fuchun Resort Hangzhou is nestled among tea fields and on a lake, circled by plenty of walking trails and greenery, the best time to visit is when you can take advantage of its natural surroundings.

• During spring and summer, a long bike ride among the trees or a tranquil boat trip across the boutique hotel’s lake is a lovely way to relax.

• In the fall, the activity list includes orange picking and sweet potato roasting, family-friendly activities that keep kids busy and fed.

• When the winter settles in, curl up in Hangzhou hotel’s cozy Lake Lounge and play Chinese checkers or flip through a magazine while enjoying a hot cup of locally grown longjing tea, or hop in the steamy pool for an invigorating swim.
The Rooms
• The 28 rooms and 57 suites at Fuchun Resort Hangzhou offer views of either the garden or the lake—and you are encouraged to take in the view in the provided slippers, robes and kimonos.

• The accommodations vary from the 388-square-foot deluxe garden view room and go up to the 2,540-square-foot lakeside villa, which has a living room and its own garden with Jacuzzi.

• The Hangzhou hotel’s superior and deluxe rooms have a shower stall but no bathtub. For a bathtub, which is set against the window so you can enjoy the view, book one of the suites.

• All rooms have Gilchrist & Soames bath products, rainforest showerheads and heated toilet seats. They are decorated with simple, sturdy dark wooden furniture that matches the gleaming wooden floors.
The Restaurants
• Fuchun Resort Hangzhou has two restaurants, Chinese spot Asian Corner and all-day dining venue Lake Lounge.

• Serving Eastern and Western fare, Lake Lounge is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and is where complimentary bedtime drinks are served.

• Of the two, it’s the more family friendly; though there’s no kids’ menu, the regular menu has simple dishes like pizza and sandwiches that will please little ones.

• There are also plenty of dishes for adults, including the caramel salmon confit, served with a green mango salad, salmon caviar and sweet Thai sauce.

• At Asian Corner, tuck in to a wide array of Chinese dishes, such as deep-fried pork ribs with salt and pepper or the lighter steamed mandarin fish with soy sauce for lunch or dinner.
