The Google-defying name refers to many things: A doubletwo
street address, two chefs (David Gingrass and Bridget
Batson) and two types of service (to-go and table). It’s also
Gingrass’s second go-round in this location. The first incarnation
was the more formal Hawthorne Lane; these days, the
large, multi-roomed restaurant is so informal there are food
magazines to peruse at the bar. The casual approach draws
an after-work crowd, and the spaciousness makes it a good
option for large groups. The food is sometimes uneven, but
it’s interesting (a foie gras PB&J with peach chutney on fig
bread is unforgettable: piquant, sweet, unctuous, impossibly rich and homey all at once), and the burger at lunch makes its way into many “best
of” lists. The TWO-Go Box lunches are some of the best noontime takeout in town,
and the monthly, bubbly-fueled cooking classes are a rockin’ good time.
