We consider it a sign of a successful and popular hotel when the locals choose to linger in the onsite lounges and bars just as long as the guests do. Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong has four different bars, and each are just as frequented by Hong Kongers as they are by the guests who stay here.
1. M bar. This bar is located on the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel’s 25th floor and offers incredible views of the city and harbor. You’ll spot some of the original décor from the 1960s throughout the now-contemporary space, including a swooping oval bar that cuts through the room. Order one of the creative cocktails, such as the Earl Grey Mar-tea-ni, made with tea-infused gin.
2. Captain’s Bar. Located just off the hotel’s lobby, this intimate bar has a pub-like feel when it’s overcome with an after-work crowd of bankers who come to swill beer served in chilled silver mugs. If you frequent the bar often enough and become a special patron, you’ll have the honor of your own engraved silver mug.
3. Mandarin Grill +Bar. More grill than bar, this upscale restaurant features a small separate lounge that’s ideal for enjoying a drink prior to dinner.
4. The Chinnery. Here you’ll find the replicated feel of an English pub, with a classic pub menu and expansive wall of whiskeys (there are more than 100) to match.
It’s important to note that after 5 p.m., you’ll need to dress the part to visit these bars. The hotel imposes a smart-casual dress code, which means no T-shirts, shorts or flip-flops.
