Every February for the past 60 years, cowboys and cowgirls in Houston and beyond have saddled up to join the annual trail ride into downtown kicking off the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  Back in 1952, when the quirky custom began, it was created in order to stir up a little bit of buzz about the “Rodeo Show”  Now, over half a century later, more than 3,000 riders join the trail ride to Memorial Park where they camp Friday night in preparation of Saturday’s parade..  If you are visiting Houston during the trail ride, you won’t believe your eyes as the roads are full of horses, buggies, and carriages of all different kinds.  Policemen line the streets to keep the trail riders safe, and also to maintain some type of traffic flow for those choosing to drive cars instead of horses.
