17 Treatment Rooms
Hidden away in a quiet, tropical oasis at Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa is a spa that blends Hawaiian traditions with contemporary treatments in an open-air, oceanfront setting that embodies what an island vacation is all about. Anara Spa is set in lush gardens with meandering stone paths and soothing waterfalls that create a relaxing outdoor space. The spa offers innovative treatments that integrate Hawaiian culture, from the rhythmic lomi lomi massage to the use of local products such as island-grown lilikoi (passion fruit) and volcanic clay from Kauai.
The 45,000-square-foot facility maintains a main open-air courtyard with 11 treatment rooms opening to their own private garden, a 25-yard lap pool and outdoor lava rock showers. In a private area separated from the main treatment rooms are two thatched roof hales (bungalows) for couples treatments. There’s a bright and open fitness studio where yoga, meditation, dance and other fitness classes are held. Though this Kauai spa opened with the hotel in November 1990 and hasn’t been renovated much since — the couples hale, though, was added in 2008 — its modern design that works with the natural surroundings is timeless. It’s obvious this spa was no afterthought.
