Originally the apartment of silent film star Lillian Gish in 1939, Maison 140 now mirrors a Left Bank Parisian motel, courtesy of “it” designer Kelly Wearstler. But it still retains a homey, residential feel. Once past the exterior’s brick façade, you’ll see Bar Noir, where sweet cocktails such as Lady Godiva (yes, as in the chocolate) are plentiful. The lobby lounge—dressed in sultry black and red—is a heady mix of contemporary and vintage, with touches that include Lucite bar stools and mirrored Chinoiserie to crystal chandeliers and Gallic antiques. All the guest rooms—divided by either Parisian or Mandarin designation—showcase Joshua Elias abstracts, but each space is a bit different thanks to eclectic wallpaper and décor objects in unorthodox patterns, colors and shapes, giving them a certain je ne sais quoi.
