The twin cities of Kitchener-Waterloo were settled in the early 1800s by Mennonites, Amish, and Germans whose cultural heritage is still clearly visible. Not far to the north in Elmira is the heart of Ontario's Pennsylvania German country, with Maple Sugar Festival and tours of Mennonite country. Although Kitchener and Waterloo are separate cities, each takes pride in the achievements of the other. A vigorous spirit of youth and industry pervades both cities, making a visit to the Kitchener-Waterloo area a pleasure for any traveler.
