This two-story Japanese restaurant, located on Waikiki’s west side, offers two different dining experiences. The atmosphere on the first floor is informal. Upstairs, a more traditional Japanese dining experience awaits, with kimono-clad waitresses serving guests in nine elegantly appointed private rooms, or tatamis, ranging in seating capacity from 2 to 70. Upstairs or down, the food and service at Kyo-ya are universally excellent. Specialties include the miso butterfish and the katsuo tataki.
