La folie means “madness,” and you shouldn’t visit unless
you’re ready to lose your head a little. The luxe French menu,
gigantic portions, heady wine list and lushly draperied décor
will leave you giddy, if only from the spillover of excitement
from the newly engaged couple at the next table. The richest
dishes are best (standouts include a terrine of pigs feet,
lobster and sweetbreads; butter-poached lobster; cheese
soufflé; and lots of black truffle). The vegetarian tasting
menu is consistently flavorful, while desserts (preceded
by a sparkling selection of complimentary petit fours and
confections) lean to silky creations made out of chocolate.
Service is some of the most affable and attentive in the city,
down to congratulatory chocolates for the recently betrothed
lovebirds.
