For a place that draws inspiration from the old glamour of Beverly Hills, Montage Beverly Hills sure fills its rooms with a lot of 21st-century technology. You can control it all from the bedside control panel buttons: Push them to turn on the lights, switch on the 42-inch TV or open the drapes. Don’t waste your time looking for the “do not disturb” sign; there’s a button near the front door that alerts housekeeping services when, and if, you’re ready for your room to be made up and when you need privacy. The fireplaces in the suites also flicker on with the right button.
Elsewhere in the room, you’ll find other tech perks. Above the bath hangs a small LCD television, which safely negates the whole “don’t operate electrical equipment near the tub” rule. If you’d rather blast music than watch the latest reality-TV show, reserve one of the Five-Star hotel’s suites; they come with an iPod docking station and a five-speaker Bose system for your listening pleasure.
