Ying at Altira Macau

A contemporary twist on Cantonese cuisine
VERIFIED LUXURY
Your first clue that Ying isn’t your typical Cantonese restaurant is the contemporary décor. The use of traditional red is balanced with modern touches like gold beaded curtains and glass panels, and the plush room features stunning views of Macau peninsula’s city lights.

Classic Cantonese restaurants don’t always offer the comforts of upscale dining, but Ying seamlessly blends traditional with more modern elements (witness the wine cellar). Serving authentic fare with a focus on fresh seafood, such as minced fish soup vermicelli and fish maw, stir-fried Macau sole fillet with asparagus and fungus in XO sauce, Ying’s dishes are also full of contemporary twists.

From the attentive staff down to the silver on the chopsticks, the experience is studded with carefully sculpted details.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The Five-Star restaurant’s décor marries traditional red with modern textures and art, including an ornately carved wooden column, and the main dining room offers a dramatic and picturesque view of Macau peninsula.
  • The atmosphere is lively and not at all stuffy but the dramatic space isn’t the most informal on the property, so you’ll want to dress to impress.
  • Both the lunch and dinner menu combine classic Cantonese delicacies with a more modern take on authentic recipes.
  • While many dim sum restaurants now focus on in-and-out service, Ying strives to keep things personal by maintaining classic table service.
Things to Know
  • Ying is located inside Altira Macau, which is on Taipa Island at the intersection of Avenida Dr. Sun Yat Sen and the Avenida de Kwong Tung. Tucked away on the 11th floor of the Five-Star hotel, you can get to Ying via the dedicated street-level elevator or from a lift within the hotel.
  • Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Ying is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and dinner is from 6 to 10:30 p.m.
  • Like Altira Macau’s other restaurants, the dress code at Ying is smart casual. You don’t have to get totally dressed up and most any attire will pass but you might want to wear something nicer than sneakers and jeans to feel most comfortable.
  • The scene at Ying is comfortable and relaxed. Ying is Altira Macau’s most popular restaurant for lunch, serving authentic dim sum, so it’s a bit more boisterous scene than what you’ll find during dinner service.
  • To book your table at Ying, call the dedicated reservation line at 853-8803-6600 or go to www.altiramacau.com/dining. Of course, if you’re staying at the hotel, the concierge can also book your table.
The Food
  • Expect to feast on traditional dim sum dishes for lunch, including steamed crystal shrimp dumplings and deep-fried spare ribs.
  • Don’t miss the restaurant’s signature seafood dishes, which seamlessly blend classic and contemporary.
