About Marshall, Illinois:
The site on which Marshall is now located was purchased from the federal government in 1833 by Colonel William Archer and Joseph Duncan, sixth governor of Illinois. They named the town after John Marshall, fourth Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Seat of Clark County, Marshall serves as a business center for the surrounding agricultural community.
