San Francisco’s most elegant dining room can be found
at Masa’s: White linen-swathed tables and toile d’Juoycovered
chairs contrast with rich chocolate walls, behemoth
red lampshades suspended from the ceiling, an abundance
of flowers and a dramatic bronze sculpture in the room’s
center. The 900-plus-bottle wine list and a variety of tasting
menus aim for a night of lush comfort—and the French
dishes, though not the most creative in town, don’t disappoint.
On the contrary, they are packed with flavor and often
incorporate ingredients like caviar, crab or bone marrow.
Dessert also comes in waves, with sorbet clearing the way
for delights like chocolate soufflé and petits fours. Perfect
service, great wine, a romantic atmosphere and rich, spot-on
flavors: Everything at Masa’s is well executed.
