Looking for good grub with a side of classic L.A. mayhem? Then head to this reliable steakhouse, which is equal parts food and scene. Mastro’s two floors are dimly lit and on the noisy side; the first floor is decidedly old school, but the upstairs is livelier, with a central bar packed with Hollywood ingenues and the hangers-on who dote on them. Once you figure out where you fit in, take a seat and start with the seafood tower; it’s always fresh and loaded with succulent oysters, shrimp, crab legs and the like. The point of a meal at Mastro’s, of course, is the steak, which arrives perfectly cooked on a piping-hot plate, and goes beautifully with the gorgonzola mac and cheese.
