Mandarin Oriental, Miami, is a regular host venue during February's annual South Beach Wine & Food Festival — perhaps not too surprising, considering the hotel was the home to the award-winning Azul restaurant. For the 2013 festival, Mandarin Oriental, Miami, brought together famous chefs from two U.S. culinary capitals for a flavorful night along the shore at “From Big Apple to Big Easy.” Representing New York was Aarón Sanchez, host of Food Network’s Chefs vs. City; Jonathan Waxman, chef and owner of Barbuto in New York’s West Village; and Marcus Samuelsson, chef and owner of Red Rooster in Harlem. (You might have seen both Waxman and Samuelsson on Top Chef Masters and Iron Chef America.) And offering eats from New Orleans was chef John Besh, host of PBS’ Chefs A’ Field. Each of the four hosts made an entrée and side dish for the tasting event, while socializing with guests throughout the night. Mandarin Oriental pastry chef Frederic Monnet was also on hand to offer after-dinner bites at his dessert station. To give you an idea for future years' planning, tickets for 2013's three-hour, beachside event were $200.
