High style in South Beach
A funky art-filled design shines throughout the historic art deco SLS Hotel South Beach. While most of the modern design can be attributed to Philippe Starck and his team — from the risqué room décor with ceiling mirrors and peekaboo showers to the humorous surreal pieces scattered elsewhere, such as a mounted bull’s head covered in a hot-pink luchador mask and a larger-than-life silver ducky near the pools — rocker Lenny Kravitz can take credit for designing the masculine Tower and Villa penthouses. A stunning beachfront property with 140 guest rooms and suites, this space offers not only a prime location, but ample food and entertainment choices. Onsite, there are two restaurants, The Bazaar (which serves modern Spanish cuisine from noted chef José Andrés) and Katsuya (a slick sushi spot), along with urban beach house Hyde Beach that’s near the two pools and right along the water.
Everything is high-tech and digitalized at the SLS Hotel; the luxury hotel’s smartphone app lets you check in, order room service and find recipes to make cocktails with ingredients from the mini-bar. Other notable hotel highlights include an in-house private salon, a great mixology program inside the Dragon Lounge and a vibrant Bar Centro overlooking the pool. And don’t worry about getting around — use the BMW house car to cruise around South Beach.
