Milan's beguiling relaxation den
6 Treatment Rooms
The striking new Shiseido Spa Milan at Excelsior Hotel Gallia, A Luxury Collection Hotel is a beguiling 10,750-square-foot space that is a lovely fusion of Japanese sensibility and Italian design. Located on the sixth and seventh floors of the luxury hotel, the spa somehow feels both serenely intimate and expansive.
The facilities are top-notch and even feature some outdoor space with scenic views of Milan. Treatments are as indulgent as you might expect — the hotel’s partnership with Japanese cult brand Shiseido was a keen choice, especially in a city where appearance is nearly everything.
Shiseido Spa Milan was designed by architect Marco Piva, who clearly knew what he was doing — the spa exudes harmony and relaxation. Its muted palette of light woods, violets and umbers creates an uplifting atmosphere. There are six treatment rooms, one private couples spa suite, three hamman rooms for wet treatments and one pedicure room.
There’s also a private Pilates room (for you and your trainer), an indoor pool, a hair salon, a swing simulator in the virtual golf room and a 24-hour fitness center with Technogym workout machines and a panoramic view of the city.
Indulgent amenities are plentiful here, too. You’ll want to take advantage of all there is to offer before a treatment — arrive early to enjoy the hydro-massage waterfall in the pool area, a Himalayan salt cabin, experience showers and a plush relaxation areas.
The juice bar is on point with recent wellness trends, though Italians have long since known of the benefits of a daily centrifuga (mixed juice). For those in need of a spot of sun, hit the solarium, an outdoor terrace with another spectacular view of Milan.
The relaxation begins even before the lights dim and you’re lulled into serenity. Upon arrival at the Milan spa, therapists will personalize your journey with your choice of a scent and a music track — you’ll be given a menu with aroma options like lemon and mandarin, plus a choice of mood music like sounds of the Orient or voices chanting.
The treatment menu is seemingly endless. From facials, signature massages and wraps to makeup application and manicures and pedicures, the luxury spa aims to spoil you with both the amount of options and the indulgent services that feature Shiseido’s best products and techniques. The therapists here are extraordinarily knowledgeable, friendly and charmingly multilingual.
Shiseido is known for its advanced skincare potions and those seeking to look younger might want to hole up here for a few days to try the exclusive services. At the top of the list of must-try treatments is the Future Solution LX Facial Ceremony, 90 minutes of lavish skin cell stimulation that aims to smooth signs of aging with a mask that lifts and sculpts facial contours (it also includes a scalp, hand and foot massage). Japanese bathing ceremonies are pure indulgence and involve an aromatic soak before being massaged into a state of bliss.
